Welcome to Poetry Advent Calendar, a place you’ll get sent a poem a day in your inbox.
Door no.14 is a poem called some guy with a band (cool). Welcome to the part of this poetry advent calendar we actually address the star of this show: THE COWBOY. I’ve kinda been driving my entire writing on my obsession with some dude with a band, for real. In the introduction, I’ve read out to you which decision I made in November: “The cowboy, “the star”, had its moments as in the past three years and I’m actually quite happy to say that the cowboy, the way you and I know him, has found its ending. From some dude in a band that never called me to the love of my life to another skin for my grief to an acclaimed version of my feelings, I’m moving on from the cowboy. Very likely still gonna write on cowboys and Elvis, but the cowboy as I’ve shown you only exists in these pages, the many works written in Howdy Bonnie! and “Pretty Tennessee”, with its continous fictional story in “dreamland, Ours” (coming out 2026) from now on.”
PS: this one has such a good last line that i burst out in laughter every single time. enjoy <3
